Birthday

23Jan09

Part of my 2009 list included getting a massage on my birthday. Instead I’ve opted for the day off, breakfast with my mom and the seester, a facial, lunch with bob at the shop (where I’m surprising him with Thai) and dinner at 5 guys burgers and fries in oak park!

My original plan was to pamper myself today and I am doing that while filling my day with people and places I love.

Enjoying my birthday. Check!

YAY!!!!

I’ve spent some time, well the last 10 min, thinking about the next few weeks…months, and I am so pleased with how the year is starting out! I know it’s only been a little over a week but hey, I’m happy.

-baby barraca’s room is coming along which means erica is less overwhelmed which makes me a happy friend
-the edcreatives new website design is almost done. BRE will get a freshen up soon after…hopefully before the first race of the season in Pamona, CA in early feb
-my bday is soon and i know exactly what i want to do…5 guys burger and fries in oak park!
-bliss/W hotel weekend with my favorite cousin and favorite friend in early feb
-jimmy eat world clarity show end of feb
-my sister turns 16. ok. my heart is breaking because she was just a little baby, just a darling 5 year old, just my little friend in such a short amount of time. And now, here she is growing up before my eyes, too cool for me. I am so excited for her and all the great things she will experience this year. I highly doubt, though, she will be as fortunate as me to be allowed to take out the new family SUV for joy rides. heh. Point for me.
-dooce.com is coming to chicago end of march and erica is having her shower too
-april is posing a big fat nothing…maybe that will get filled with a drag race, who knows
-and in may, i get to meet my favorite barraca! sorry erica, you’ll always be my favorite travel buddy, but your kiddo is going to surpass you and dirge by light years.

it’s so nice to start the year off right. It feels good to start on a happy note. It makes me thrilled to look at the calendar and have it filled with plans that make me smile instead of grunt and whine that I don’t want to go.

Here’s a fun article on how not to design a logo.

The “design without feedback” examples are HILARIOUS!

happy reading.

It IS starting out so well. I spent Jan 1 with wonderful family and delicious food. I also basically cut half my thumb tip off and later hammered that thumb which led me to discover that oxiclean is freakin amazing!! It took all the blood out of my 2nd favorite pair of pajama pants. Today I have the day off from the day job which is giving me plenty of time to organize my kitchen, throw out the remainder of the Christmas tissue paper, and lunch with bob.

Stuff on my list I have already accomplished…
-tv shelf in loft…check
-won a deathmatch…check
-wii fit says I am a year older than my actual age…almost check
(hey it’s better than 42 but I am still working to my goal)

It’s moments like these where I wake up for a moment and get out of my day to day humdrum and realize there is a big big world out there…apparently, marching bands are now covering metal bands.
Have I missed something? Maybe this isn’t a new thing and my head has been rammed so far down in a pile of sand that I had not realized marching bands are awesome.

Local Chicago radio mentioned that Avenged Sevenfold (my second favorite band just after The Get Up Kids) will be performing during half time of the Rose Bowl game. WAHHH! Did I hear that right? Well sort of. The USC Marching Band is covering Almost Easy. What on earth! Of course I google that and almost fell out of my chair. Why couldn’t marching band be cool when I was forced to flute, trumpet and tuba my way through embarrassment?

I guess they tested this out a month or so ago. Check it out.

Best of 2008

24Dec08

So 2008 is coming to a close and it’s really ending on a some great notes.

1. After a 4 year interview process I am finally getting a brother-in-law!!
My sister-in-law is FINALLY engaged and I couldn’t be happier for the 2 for them.

2. Erica and DJ are having a little baby boy!! He’s coming around may and it’s killing me. I can not wait to meet him and sugar him up, spoil him and hand him back to mom and dad!! Hurry up May. Hurry up Baby B!!

3. BRE was mentioned in the best of 2008 article on Drag Race Central. It’s is quite the honor to even appear in articles on this site but to be in the best of 2008, it makes my heart race with excitement. It brings back the emotion we all felt during that race, during that run. Here’s to a 6.29 in 2009!

they’re saving my life right now as I type.
371 photos, all need to be converted to b/w PSD files.
Yes I think I will let photoshop to the work for me. Thank you.

I’m home now after spending a week drag racing with the family. Bob and I drove all night to Maryland. We tested in MD where the dragster sucked for 2 runs. So the guys swapped tires and lowered the launch (i think) and boom. The dragster ran better than it has ever ran. So we left for Virginia with really high hopes and tons of excitement and we were certainly not let down. Twice we shocked the announcers. Twice we ran off screaming. The crowd cheered us on as we drove down the return road to pick up Bob’s dad. We hugged and laughed and took it all in while we had it. In the end we went out early thanks to the dreaded red light. But it’s alright. Qualifying on the pole and running the best time yet, I’ll take it. We had a great time.

15 hours later we are home. I feel as though I am in culture shock. It’s really quiet… no pro mods warming up, no fuelers making their run, just an office and chatter. I miss the smell of the smoke after a burnout, the feeling of rubber in my face. My nails are clean and it annoys me. I miss the group effort, the fact that as a family we come together to create a crew. We go to a place where everyone participating is there to race. We all have a common goal. We all understand what it takes. We all love what we are doing and don’t question it for one second. Coming home is the hardest part.
